The policies of Imam ʿAlī (as) in establishing economic justice with emphasis on Nahj al-Balaghah

Abstract

The government of Imam ʿAlī  (as) was a period of justice in economic terms. After 25 years since the passing of the Prophet (PBUH), a new approach in Islamic governance and a widespread effort to combat discrimination and return to the era of the Prophet (PBUH) were taken. Some of Imam’s economic views are expressed in Nahj al-Balaghah. He adopted various policies regarding economic development and the creation of welfare in society. His most important economic action was how to distribute the Muslims Atᾱ. His policy of giving Atᾱ without discrimination led to the expansion of economic justice in society and a reduction in class disparity. This research, which is written using a descriptive-analytical method and relies on primary sources and historical research while emphasizing Nahj al-Balaghah, aims to examine the economic policies of Imam ʿAlī (as) in terms of income and expenditure. The findings of this article show that the economic policies of Amir al-Mu'minin ʿAlī  (as) were based on a focus on justice and were in continuation of the economic policies of the Prophet (PBUH) aimed at increasing public welfare and reducing economic gaps.
