Abstract

The caliphate of Imam Hasan ibn Ali (AS) is one of the significant chapters in Islamic history. The brief and turbulent political life of the second Shia Imam was consistently marked by security threats and attempts by his adversaries to physically eliminate him. Using a descriptive-analytical method and drawing upon reliable historical sources, this research defines that the acts of terror against Imam Hasan (AS) were not limited to a single temporary incident but rather a complex and continuous campaign with psychological and military dimensions. Findings suggest that this project was planned and fulfilled by Muawiyah’s political and security network to weaken the internal structure of the Kufa army and contrive the consolidation of Yazid’s hereditary caliphate. Furthermore, it was accomplished by abusing the internal elements, including the religious fanaticism of the Kharijites, moral weaknesses and worldliness of some Kufa tribal leaders. This study categorizes these efforts, ranging from unsuccessful military assaults on the battlefield to poisoning, and examines the motivations, executive factors, and consequences associated with each.
